Is Hypnotherapy Safe?

Hypnotherapy is 100% safe, in 200 years of Hypnotherapy no one has been hurt. It is simply a deeply relaxed state.

What is hypnotherapy ?

Hypnotherapy is where you are gradually taken into a deep relaxed state so your conscious mind is surpressed, then the Hypnotherapist can talk to your sub-conscious mind to change your behaviours.

Will I know what’s happening?

Yes, you will be conscious the whole time, you will just be in a deep relaxed hypnotic trance.

Will I say or do something I don’t want to when I’m hypnotised?

No. It is in the interests of therapy to utilise the trance state to help the patient. If the therapist asks questions that are upsetting the patient, they will either come out of the trance or refuse to answer. A sensitive therapist should take notice of the patient’s body language, be aware that a conflict is arising and avoid similar questions.

What if I feel really nervous ?

Most people are nervous on their first session, this is natural as you don’t really know what to expect until you experience it. Please don’t worry, I explain everything before I start the hypnosis so that you will know exactly what is going to happen. Many first timers then start to feel relaxed and don’t feel nervous anymore. I like my clients to feel as comfortable as possible.

Could I remain in trance and not come out of it ?

No. The trance state is a natural one and if you were left in a trance by the therapist, you would either come out of it or go to sleep and wake up naturally. You can bring yourself out of trance at any point during the session if you wanted to. I bring everyone out of the trance and make sure they are fully awake before they leave my therapy room.?

Can anyone be Hypnotised

In the clinical setting most people who want to be hypnotised can be hypnotised. As Hypnosis is a co-operation between therapist and patient it is necessary for the patient to trust the therapist before allowing themselves to go into a trance. Some people go into a deeper trance than others depending on what is called their trance capacity. This is made up of many factors like genetic make-up, state of mind at the time, ability to let go, need to be in control.

Will I be under the control of the Hypnotherapist?

No. This is impossible. The aim of the therapy is for the therapist and client to work together towards a positive outcome. Co-operation is achieved by the therapist offering useful suggestions in the trance & the patient feeling safe and secure enough to accept them. If the patient feels they are losing control, they will increase the resistance and the benefits of the therapy are reduced. By relaxing and letting go, they will open their mind to the therapeutic words from the therapist. If at any time the patient feels threatened or unsafe they can come out of the trance and express their concern.
